Overview
The school life of Mariano Lake Community School kindergarten through sixth-grade students is rooted in the Pillars of the Navajo Plan. Our young Bobcats learn and live the established principles of our educational program through participation in diverse activities, which improve their success in the academic, social, cultural, physical, and spiritual components of their life. These pillars are outlined in the schools’ Commitment to the Navajo Learner, an educational framework that remains an integral part of our activities.
Academic Enhancement
Student activities guide our young Bobcats through school and prepare them for the next level. They help them establish solid foundations in English language arts, math, science, social studies, and Navajo language and culture. Various activities like spelling bees, science fairs, 21st Century Programs, and cultural arts events complement our educational program, helping students pass all standards assessments.
Student-Family Involvement
Mariano Lake Community School’s Family and Child Education (FACE) program provides opportunities for its parents/guardians to support and ensure their child’s success. The FACE Program offers critical learning and developmental activities for infants to third graders and their parents/guardians. We also encourage parents/guardians and children to work collaboratively on homework, read together to increase household literacy, and enhance computer skills.
Beyond the Classroom
Bobcats discover additional talents when they become active in professional learning communities like the Center for Career and Technical Education. Early introduction to new learning opportunities is an advantage of Mariano Lake Community School’s curriculum. We expose students to a wide range of activities that support their college, career, and lifelong learning. Our growing Bobcat Technology Community teaches students the best uses for their digital devices and Internet access.
Athletic Activity
Sports, competition, and athletic activities support the student’s overall well-being. While students develop character, skills, and community, they also maintain physical health. Mariano Lake Community School Bobcats compete in cross country and basketball. Various athletic activities are also provided through summer camps and programs, after-school programs, and workshops.
Field Trips
Students can earn the privilege of taking a field trip to one of the fun and educational destinations that educators plan throughout the school year. All field trips to off-campus destinations require written parent/guardian permission. To participate in an athletic competition, students must have passing grades in all classes. If permission is not received for a particular field trip, another activity will be assigned.
