Student displaying a detailed cultural building model

Mariano Lake Community School celebrated vibrant hands‑on learning and artistic expression. Kindergarten through second-grade and fifth-grade students participated in the annual Gallup Arts student show, proudly displaying artwork they designed, sculpted, or drew. During their field trip to the Gallup Arts Studio, students also created sock puppets to use during read‑aloud time. Second graders posed with their sculptures, and the fifth graders enjoyed sharing their projects with staff and families.

Creativity continued on campus as Mrs. Yazzie’s fourth‑grade class built a traditional Navajo Hogan model over spring break. Students planned, designed, and constructed their Hogans with care, connecting cultural knowledge to hands‑on building skills. These activities highlight the excitement and growth happening at Mariano Lake as students explore art and culture.
