2nd Graders Bring Reading and Culture to Life

Share

School Information

Children perform a classroom skit while reading from papers in front of a rainy scene on a smartboard.

Mr. Hunkus’ 2nd‑grade class at Mariano Lake Community School brought reading to life with a creative and culturally rich reader’s theater performance. As part of their hard work at reading at their grade level with accuracy, speed, and expression, students adapted their script to include Dine Bizaad (Navajo language), replacing animal names and character names with those meaningful to their community.

They designed their own backgrounds and props, performed for classmates and staff, and concluded with a special presentation for their families. The celebration ended with well‑earned cupcakes and juice boxes as treats for a successful production that showcased their learning and cultural pride!
